A few highlights from Mum’s garden

I popped over to see Mum yesterday afternoon. She’d said over the phone that she had a few things in the garden she had to show me, so I was keen to see how it was looking.

The first was a begonia – neither of us particularly likes begonias but the corms were free so we gave them a go. Mum’s are further long than mine as I started mine later. Hers are in flower (well, some of them are) and are quite pretty, if you like begonias of course!

Then she wanted me to see the thalictrum – something I’ve never grown, but it’s very pretty so I might have to find a spot for one. From a distance you can see a cloud of little purple flowers, and close up it looks like this:

Finally, the echinacea, which was being visited by a very busy bee!

This weekend I had intended to get out and do a few things in the garden but it didn’t happen. Maybe next week instead! Thankfully most things are taking care of themselves at the moment, but there is always a bit of weeding and deadheading, isn’t there?

  1. I love the thalictrum – I’ve never heard of that before…how very pretty! That’s going on my garden shopping list for sure.
Begonias are a strange plant aren’t they? I likr their colour and they’re easy to grow but hmmm a bit like the marmite of the garden for many!
